Hard Materials

Conceptual Statement

I am designing A wooden basketball toy for myself. chose this idea because I play basketball and I play it every day at morning-tea and lunch-time so that’s why I chose basketball.

WOODEN TOY

NAME: Wiremu TePania

Evaluation
Key Attribute 1:
A design that I,the stakeholder, likes.
Key Attribute 2:
It had to be fully functional because if it doesn’t work then it was a waste of time.
Key Attribute 3:
It has to work smoothly because if it didn’t work smoothly it wouldn’t work the way you wanted.

Development/ Final Design Drawing

I was feeling good about the final design because I thought it was the right one for my interest. When it came time to print it out on the card I couldn’t get it to encrypted his eyes and stuff so I had to stick picture of him on.

Concept Ideas

I wanted something that represents me like rugby or basketball. The decision was easy in the end because before I drew the second picture I knew I was going use the first design no matter what the other design was.

Research

When I chose the basketball design I wanted him to be doing some kind trick when he’s going for the dunk. So that’s why I chose the rotary and reciprocating motion for my design. This motion allows the toy to spin around move up and down.

Mystery Writing

Mystery Writing

The biggest bank in the world, the Millennium Bank in Paris. Russell McDonald was getting ready for another day at the bank but today was different. He walked in and he screamed, thousands and thousands of dollars had been stolen from the central vault.

“Put your hands up,” said a voice. He turned around and there were three men holding guns and large bags of money. They sprinted out and into the getaway car. Russell immediately rung the police but 10 minutes later the cops still had not arrived but my friends Tom, Francis and Joe had. They said “We heard about the burglary, so sorry” said Joe. “We'll be off” said Francis.

As they walked away I wondered how did they know because I only rung the police. They said they wanted to go on holiday but they had no money to go but I didn’t think too much of it. The police arrived and immediately started finding fingerprints and DNA samples. They got the results of the tests the next day and the prints were from Tom Williamson, Francis Mason and Joe Matson. Who just happen to be all of my friends. They were all caught on the way to the airport. All of the money was returned and the bank was safe.

Athletics Day

Athletics

Last Friday we had athletics. The Te Kanawa boys started at long jump. Reif did the furthest jump in our house with 4.44 metres, that's a lot further than mine 2.29 metres, but I didn't try.

Next was discus. I almost hit my friend. I didn't do the 200 or 100 metre sprints. In the shot-put I threw just under 7 metres but didn't do the vortex throw. I didn't qualify for the high jump team.

In the relays Te Kanawa boys came 2nd and 4th. But in the girls relays we came 1st and 3rd. In the 32-man relay Te Kanawa smashed because Nepia dropped the baton 2 times and 2 of their team rolled there ankles, so it was easy for us.

Hiroshima- Breaking News!

Hiroshima Flattened By A-Bomb
Breaking news as a small city in Japan,Hiroshima, was flattened by what is believed to be the first atomic bomb ever made. The force was so powerful that it wiped out the whole city and just under half of the population. The plane that dropped the bomb was believed to be an american B 29 bomber aircraft.

August 6th 1945, the plane flew across Hiroshima around 8.15am.  It caused devastation across town in a 10 mile radius. The aircraft was originally meant to drop the bomb in a different city but bad weather called that mission off so they dropped it on Hiroshima. It blew up and made a mushroom shaped cloud then came back down and wiped out the rest of the city.

The American president Harry S Truman said the bomb was meant to end the war. He summed up by saying hiroshima’s luck is Nagasaki’s misfortune. August 9th 1945, Nagasaki was brought down by another american atomic bomb.

Give me 10 words.

Our teacher gave us a task of replacing the words walk, eat, look and make so we could make our writing more interesting.

Walk: Pace, step, run, march, stride,

jog, powerwalk, stomp, stroll and tread.

Eat: Munch, chomp, crunch, swallow, chew, devour, ingest, consume, gulp and .

Look: Stare, see, gaze, glare, peer, squint, scan, engaged, sight and glance.

Make: Create, construct, invent, build, design, assemble, form, model, mold and transform.

Sentence

I ran with pace down to the parade to watch my brother in the marching band. On the way I saw some builders creating a scale model design of a house they were going to build. I stayed to glance at the model to scan the detail in the model, I peered around the corner and the parade had started. I stopped at the dairy and came out with some lollies, chips and a drink, I munched the chips devoured the lollies and gulped on the drink.

This is my persuasive writing, This picture is an example of trust. The jumper is trusting the lifters to lift him up and bring him down safely. This is all about showing what a good friend is.

Why Good Friends Are Important
Good friends important because you can share ideas, you won’t be alone and you’ll always have someone to talk to.

Be honest because if you can’t trust each other then you can’t build a firm and stable friendship. Sometimes the truth hurts but if it benefits them so they know what’s going on and they don’t get hurt by others then you're doing the right thing.

Honesty comes into play here in being concerned about what you are going through because if they are not concerned about how you feel they aren’t very good friends at all. Say if you are going through some tough times at home and they just say something like “just get over it,”that's not what a real friend would say. A true friend would say “it’ll be alright,” and help them. It’ll make a extremely big difference in your friendship.

Following on try be give helpful advice to help your friend through the problem if your friend needs help in a situation that they can’t solve on their own you need to be there for them to help them try to get over it Figure out a solution.
Conclusion/Summary:
Friends are important so you just need to help your friends if they are going through some tough times and be concerned about their situation and be honest to gain trust. Most things can’t be solved alone so it’s good to have friends that can help.

Why Do We Clean Our Teeth?

2. It prevents cavities and that means no fillings.
1.  Prevents tooth decay.
4. Your breath would stink really bad.
5. Dentist expense.
6. Fizzy drinks and lollies.
Writing
There are many reasons why we clean our teeth.  These are usually to do with keeping our teeth and gums healthy.

One reason why we clean our teeth is to prevent tooth decay. Tooth decay is caused by bacteria clinging to food that is stuck in between your teeth. This causes your teeth to decay and they may eventually fall out or have to be pulled out by a dentist. Things like sugary foods especially fizzy drinks and lollies will cause your teeth to decay faster because they have sugar..

Another important thing cleaning your teeth prevents is cavities. Cavities are small holes in the tooth enamel caused by bacteria left on teeth. Another upside to not getting cavities is you don’t need to get fillings.

The cost of going to the dentist is another big  issue. You get free dentist appointments until you are 17 years old.  After that, if you haven’t looked after your teeth the dentist can charge a lot of money to get teeth fixed.

You need to brush your teeth because if you don’t your breath will stink really bad. Things like garlic will stink out your breath for a really long time unless you brush you teeth. Mouth wash also works.

Plaque is very bad.  If you brush your tongue on your teeth and you get a bit of furry feeling that is bacteria growing.  They quickly multiply, pretty disgusting right.

Just clean your teeth so none of these thing happen to you.

How we clean our teeth!

Brush your teeth so they are healthy and you can use them to eat and they look good if you do it regularly 2 times a day. Morning and night.

First you take your own toothbrush from the toothbrush holder. Then grab a tube of toothpaste and squeeze a pea sized blob on the bristles of your toothbrush. Rinse brush for five seconds  then open your mouth and brush your teeth in a circular motion across your teeth. Go from the back of your mouth and make your way around to the front teeth. After that brush the top of your tongue because that is where most of the food goes. Then spit the toothpaste into the sink. Then fill a cup of water. Pour it into your mouth and swish it around, then spit it back into the sick to get the rest of the toothpaste out.
If you do these simple steps 2 times a day your teeth will be healthy and clean.

Best week ever
On Wednesday while the rest of my class were off to camp I was on my way to room 3 with all the other people who weren’t going as well. When I got to class I introduced myself and played on prodigy until the bell rang.
We played a game to introduce our selves we all had to bring something to the hangi, I brought watercress. Our first task was to split ourselves up into groups of 3 or 4. Then we had to design our own island and a flag. My groups island was the best in my mind. We were coming second on the points table. For maths we did an orienteering challenge, there were coordinates on the map to show us where to go. There was one coordinate that told us to go to the cricket pitch but it wasn’t there. We came 2nd.
On Thursday walked into class and it was deserted. Mr Pedley walked and said “hi,” the bell rang, the class was a lot smaller now that the people from room 16 and 17 had gone back to their normal classes. We watched a clip about paper, scissors and rock. scissor man was cutting down the trees and paper lady and rock man were running away. scissor man caught up to them and he killed paper lady. Rock man was very angry and he smashed scissor man into the ground. Rock man tried to save paper lady and he did but it came at the cost of his own life.
after morning tea we did a maths work sheet. We had one sheet with equations on it and the other had lots of answers and one answer had to be coloured one colour and another answer was coloured another colour. My picture ended up being a minion. After lunch we did some art. Mr Pedley said could do anything we wanted. I did a prodigy math game character called Burnewt. Then we went in a sport rotation with hillary house but we didn’t rotate at all we just stayed on one activity.
Nothing really happened on but I still had a good time Friday.

Swimming recount

Te Kanawa house were on their way to the village pools for a swim on a boiling hot Monday afternoon. It felt like the sun was angry at us. We were scorched the whole way there and finally we made it all hot and bothered needing a nice long swim. When we got changed all I wanted to do was pop some manus’ in the deep pool.

We were split up into our classes- Room 13 went with Mr Birnie to do swimming drills, room 15 went with Mrs Elmore to do first aid training, room 16 went with Mr Stove to do team building and room 17 went with Mrs Kimber to do survival skills, treading water and not touching the side of the pool for 10 minutes.

In the swimming drills we were diving and swimming widths and lengths in the lane pool. We did dolphin dives and barrel rolls which I thought were pretty fun. The lengths we did at the end was like a game of tag.

In the deep pool it was hard to stay afloat without touching the side. I struggled for most of the 10 minutes but I did it. Matthew almost drowned. It felt way longer than 10 minutes.

Then we did CPR on a manikin. It was lucky we weren’t operating on a real person because we sucked! Lots of people skipped some steps. It that hard. Everyone did the compressions correctly, that was probably the easiest part of that challenge.

The bucket race was pretty fun. I fell over a lot because I had the smallest bucket. I was in a team with Tristin, Jake, Hayden and Rief. Everyone else was lucky because the buckets were small but we all made it.

After all that we were allowed some free time. The first thing I did go pop some manus’ in the deep pool. Rief did the biggest manus’ because his splash went up to the clouds. “Out now, time to get changed!” Mr Birnie yelled! I asked Mr Birnie for one for manu but he said no but just jumped back in. It was a long sweltering walk back to school.

It wasn’t the best ending to a great day because I had a really good time.

Where I'm From poem

Wiremus’ Poem
I am from sunshine beach
from cold winters and frosty mornings
I am from rugby in the front yard
(Hard hitting but lots of fun)
I am from bonfires on the beach
Catching fish for a feed
I am from hurricanes fans
I am Crusaders all the way
I am from impatient little brother
That is in trouble all the time
I am from know-it-alls
And pass-it-downs
From pick up your lip and don’t fall over it
I am from the mighty Bay
Where the gannets dive and the fish whinging
I am from nagging parents
And loving grandparents
I am from unknown cushions
And close relatives
I am from the bus on the way to school
After school too
I am from goldfish in cast iron baths
From budges in little cages
I am from bike riders and scooterfreaks
I am from the paradise of the pacific
from the land of the long white cloud known as New Zealand.
